The Time is Now

Out of the top six fastest-growing careers taking over the United States, the Personal Financial Advisor position is ranked #1 with a projected job growth rate of 32% from 2010–2020.*1  There is high demand to meet the growing number of aging Americans who are retiring. Roughly 10,000 Baby Boomers will turn 65 today, and about 10,000 more will cross that threshold every day for the next 19 years. *2

According to the Investment Company Institute, retirement assets rose from $23.4 trillion at the end of March to total $24 trillion as of June 30. *3

It’s the greatest Migration of wealth ever to hit humanity: The unprecedented flood of money, four times the size of the US gross domestic product, that will be passed along to a younger generation over the next half-century. *4 

It is estimated that nearly $60 trillion in US wealth will change hands over the next 55 years. The massive haul will be shifter from 93.6 million American estates through 2061- the largest wealth transfer in American history. *4

Studies show that 98% of new wealth inheritors change financial advisors. *5 The good news? Family specialists who take a “glass half full” outlook can benefit from that trend, as the field is wide open for advisors looking to add some of that newbie wealth to their client lists.

  • Less than 5% of the existing 316,000 financial advisors in the country are under age 30. *6
  • The average age of advisors in the country is now 50.9 years, and 43 percent of advisors in the industry are over the age of 55 years, while just 11% are under the age of 35. *7
  • Now Millions of baby boomers are heading into retirement at the same time as their financial advisor, losing a trusted caretaker of their money.These trillions of dollars will be up for grabs over the next decade as fewer than one in three advisors has a formal plan for handing off their client list. *8
